How to watch the MLB in 2022

With the Major League Baseball season kicking off yesterday and everyone trying to figure out how to stream their favorite team, I thought I would put out this guide to help.

Chicago Cubs

Network – Marquee Network

Streaming Service(s) – DirecTV Stream CHOICE Plan ($90/month) & FuboTV ($70/month)

Summary – The Cubs games will air on the Marquee network which is only carried currently by two streaming services, FuboTV and DirecTV Stream.

Chicago White Sox

Network – NBC Sports Chicago

Streaming Service(s) – DirecTV Stream CHOICE Plan ($90/month), FuboTV ($70/month), Hulu with Live TV ($70/month), and YouTube TV ($65/month)

Summary – The White Sox will continue to air on NBC Sports Chicago and as you can see, you have a lot of options to choose from to be able to pick up that channel.

St Louis Cardinals

Network – Bally Sports (Formerly Fox Sports Midwest)

Streaming Service(s) – DirecTV Stream CHOICE Plan ($90/month)

Summary – The Cardinals games will air on Bally Sports, which used to be Fox Sports Midwest. Bally is only carried by one service currently and that is DirecTV Stream.

 Out of Area Teams

If you live in central Illinois and your favorite team is not listed above or are just a HUGE baseball fan and love to watch all the games, then I would recommend getting MLB.TV. MLB.TV is $24.99 per month including October and will cover EVERY team. If you do not want to pay monthly, they also have a yearly plan for $139.99 that covers the whole season and offseason while still allowing you to watch every team. You can also get a single team package for $119.99 for the year, so you can watch your favorite team for the complete season and offseason. I do not recommend MLB.TV to anyone who is trying to watch their favorite local team because they are still subject to blackouts. For instance, if you live in Illinois and are trying to watch any of the teams I have listed above, they will be blacked out on MLB.TV until an hour and a half after the game is over. New for MLB.TV in 2022 is the addition of a few extra benefits. Those benefits being MLB Big Inning, Pregame and Post game, and updated streaming app and an expanded content library.

Apple TV & Peacock

Apple TV +

Apple and Major League Baseball have partnered to bring select games to Apple TV + in their Friday Night Baseball package. This means every Friday night there will be 2 games that air exclusively on Apple TV +.

Peacock

Peacock has partnered with the MLB to become the exclusive home to a new MLB game of the week on Sunday mornings.

Any game of Apple TV + or Peacock is exclusive to those platforms and if your team is the game of the week or one of the two teams playing on Friday night, then you will have to subscribe to these services to see that game.

Just as a note, some games may be played on ESPN, TBS, FS1, Fox, and the MLB Network which are  pretty standard in most streaming services.

Major League Baseball has become a little more complicated to watch these past few years, but I hope this guide helps you find out how to watch your favorite team this year.  As always if you need help with anything streaming or smart home related you can contact us at 309-778-8611 or by emailing us at OneSource@midcentury.com.
